"Coloring the faces of change"
The inspiration for this coloring book came from a realization of the cultural movement that is happening amongst the black community in Baltimore City. So rich in talent, ingenuity, and innovation; Baltimore is a city frequently characterized and depicted as so much less, I wanted to highlight the greatness that is happening before our very eyes. Working with youth for the past decade, I wanted to add some light to the city in a fun way. I wanted youth to see black people coming from where they come from and excelling in many professions and career choices. The Black Baltimore Renaissance represents a new narrative and a new way of thinking about who represents this city. I sincerely wanted to create something encouraging for people to have fun with and learn about their fellow community members doing great work.
Reduce Stress & Anxiety
Coloring has the ability to relax the fear center of your brain, the amygdala. It induces the same state as meditating by reducing the thoughts of a restless mind.
This generates mindfulness and quietness, which allows your mind to get some rest after a long day at work.
IMPROVE MOTOR SKILLS & VISION
Coloring goes beyond being a fun pastime. It requires the two hemispheres of the brain to communicate. While logic helps us stay inside the lines, choosing colors generates a creative thought process.
Coloring requires you to focus, but not so much that it’s stressful. It opens up your frontal lobe, which controls organizing and problem solving, and allows you to put everything else aside and live in the moment, generating focus.
